The newest anime series, Dragon Ball Daima, brings back Goku and Earth’s mightiest heroes. Toei Animation has just released its trailer, showcasing a unique chibi-style aesthetic. However, it’s important to note that this series will feature an entirely new storyline crafted by the original creator, Akira Toriyama. Despite the characters’ youthful appearance, the narrative is set after the defeat of Majin Buu from Dragon Ball Z, but before the emergence of Beerus and Whis.
The intriguing question arises: why this departure in art style, reminiscent of Dragon Ball GT with shorter characters and larger heads? The teaser hints that the adult characters may have been inadvertently shrunk down, potentially due to an unintended consequence of a wish granted by Shenron.
Dragon Ball Daima, unveiled by executive producer Akio Iyoku at the New York City Comic Con, also brings back a cherished item from Goku’s past: his extendable Power Pole. This inclusion sets the stage for an adventure reminiscent of the original Dragon Ball series from the 1980s, when it was a contemporary reimagining of Journey to the West, before evolving into the renowned fighting tournament extravaganza and martial arts showcase.
The show remains shrouded in mystery, with the cast, both for the Japanese language version and the English dub, yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, anticipation is high for the release of Dragon Ball Daima, slated for the fall of 2024. Fans can’t wait to dive into this new chapter of the beloved franchise.
