As anticipation builds for the release of Squid Game Season 3 on Netflix, fans are getting a chilling glimpse into what lies ahead. The global phenomenon, starring Lee Jung Jae, is gearing up for its much-awaited finale, and recent teasers have only fueled the excitement. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk and art director Chae Kyoung Sun have begun revealing key details about the new season, hinting at a much darker, more psychologically intense narrative.
Director Hwang described Season 3 as darker and more brutal than Season 2, yet still clever and laced with dark humor. He explained that this season will explore not just physical survival, but also psychological endurance. According to him, the bleak situations the characters face are meant to evoke a twisted sense of lost childhood and moral questioning. His vision for the finale centers around confronting the core question: does humanity still exist within us—and is it strong enough to challenge cruelty?
Art director Chae Kyoung Sun offered insight into the visual evolution of the series. She revealed that this season’s design draws inspiration from poisonous plants, using vibrant but dangerous colors to symbolize deception and hidden threats. For instance, the revamped VIP room is designed with themes that reflect toxic beauty, where cruelty is masked in lavishness. Chae explained that while Season 1 had a “law of the jungle” aesthetic, Season 3 takes bolder creative risks by embedding danger into seemingly beautiful spaces.
The story continues to follow Seong Gi Hun, who returns to the deadly game with a new mission: not to win, but to dismantle the system from within. Opposing him is the mysterious and menacing Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung Hun, whose true motivations are expected to be explored in more depth. This final chapter promises to tie up unresolved mysteries while pushing the characters to their emotional and ethical limits.
