Netflix’s Adolescence has made an impressive debut, becoming the most-watched show on the platform’s English TV chart for the week of March 10-16, with 24.3 million views in its first four days. The British miniseries, which centers on a family grappling with the aftermath of a young boy being accused of murder, quickly captivated audiences around the world. Despite not having major Hollywood stars, Adolescence reached No. 1 in 71 countries during its debut week.
Although it narrowly trailed The Electric State, a sci-fi film starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, which topped the list with 25.2 million views, Adolescence managed to outshine several other popular series on the platform. The Electric State, with its USD 320 million budget and star power, was expected to perform well but had relatively lower viewership compared to previous Netflix hits. For example, Enola Holmes 2 earned 32 million views in its opening weekend, while Damsel garnered 35 million views within three days.
Beyond Adolescence, other series also performed well. Running Point secured 6 million views in its third week, while Zero Day landed in third place with 4.4 million views in its fourth week. Beauty in Black and Formula 1: Drive to Survive also made strong impressions, with 3.9 million and 3.2 million views, respectively. The Yellowstone prequel, 1883, which had recently been added to Netflix, made it to No. 7 on the chart with 2.9 million views.
All in all, Adolescence has proven to be a standout success, signaling that British series with compelling narratives can have a significant global impact on Netflix’s platform.
