Netflix is set to become the new streaming home for Universal’s live-action movies sooner than expected. Originally, Netflix and Universal had announced in October 2024 that live-action films would come to the streamer starting in 2027, following an initial run on Peacock. Now, new reports confirm that Netflix U.S. will start streaming these movies from January 2026.

The first film under this updated arrangement will be Megan 2.0, which is scheduled to arrive on Monday, January 26. According to the original agreement, Netflix will get new Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) live-action titles no later than eight months after their theatrical release. This means fans won’t have to wait long to see new Universal hits at home.

Under the deal, Netflix also retains exclusive rights to Universal’s animated films, and live-action films will later rotate between Netflix and Peacock. After their debut on Peacock, Netflix will have a ten-month window where the films are available exclusively on the platform before they return to Peacock. The agreement also includes licenses for Universal’s full animation and live-action slate for future years, as well as select titles from its extensive film library.

This is a significant change for streaming viewers, particularly for Prime Video subscribers who have been the main home for Universal live-action movies since 2022. The new deal positions Netflix as a key destination for big studio releases in the coming years.

What can Netflix subscribers expect?

Netflix subscribers can look forward to more than just Megan 2.0. The live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is expected on February 10, and Ethan Coen’s neo-noir comedy Honey Don’t! will stream on February 3. Additionally, Netflix will host Universal’s past and upcoming hits, including Jurassic World Rebirth, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, Black Phone 2, Wicked: For Good, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Looking further ahead, Netflix will also stream one of the most anticipated films of 2026: Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, which is set for theaters over the summer.

This deal makes Netflix the go-to platform for Universal movies, giving subscribers faster access to major theatrical releases and expanding the streamer’s already extensive library. Fans of both action-packed blockbusters and family-friendly animations now have even more reason to tune in and plan their movie nights around Netflix’s growing collection.
