Netflix has released the first trailer for a new feature-length documentary examining the crimes and conviction of Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse found guilty of murdering seven babies in her care.
Titled The Investigation of Lucy Letby, the documentary is set to premiere on the streaming platform on 4th February 2026 and promises to offer the most detailed examination yet of one of the most disturbing criminal cases in modern British history.
According to Netflix, the film will include new materials and testimony from British police officers who led the investigation, alongside never-before-seen footage of Letby during her arrest and subsequent police questioning. The inclusion of this previously unreleased material marks a significant development, as much of Letby’s interaction with investigators has remained out of public view until now.
Produced by ITN Productions, the documentary will also feature a deeply personal perspective rarely heard in coverage of the case. For the first time, the mother of one of the victims will speak publicly in a documentary about her experience, her involvement in the trial, and the impact the case has had on her family. Netflix has confirmed that this is the first time a family member connected to the prosecution has taken part in a long-form documentary about Letby.
The film aims to explore the full scope of the investigation, from the initial suspicions raised at the Countess of Chester Hospital to the lengthy trial process that ultimately led to Letby’s conviction. Interviews with legal experts, medical specialists and lawyers from both the prosecution and defence are included, offering analysis of the evidence, courtroom arguments and the broader questions raised by the case.
Netflix has described the documentary as “the most comprehensive look at one of Britain’s most notorious crimes”, a claim likely to attract both interest and scrutiny given the intense public debate that has surrounded the conviction.
Letby, now aged 36, is currently serving 15 whole-life prison terms after being found guilty of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others. The crimes took place between June 2015 and June 2016 while she was working at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital. Her sentencing makes her the UK’s most prolific child murderer in modern times.
The case gripped the nation throughout the trial and aftermath, dominating headlines and prompting widespread discussion about hospital safety, medical oversight and the criminal justice system. It has also proved divisive, with some commentators and campaigners questioning aspects of the medical and statistical evidence used to secure the convictions, despite repeated appeals being dismissed by the courts.
Letby’s case has previously been explored in documentaries by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, but Netflix’s film appears set to differentiate itself through its access to unseen police footage and direct testimony from those involved in building the case.
