Aaron Pierre is reportedly a top contender to play John Stewart in Lanterns, an upcoming DC Universe series focused on the Green Lantern Corps. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pierre and fellow actor Stephan James are in the final stages of consideration for the role. Both actors have impressive credentials: Pierre is known for his lead role in Rebel Ridge and his previous superhero experience as Dev-Em in Krypton, while James has garnered acclaim for his roles in Homecoming and If Beale Street Could Talk.

The Lanterns series will follow John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they investigate a murder on Earth, with Hal Jordan acting as a reluctant mentor to Stewart. The show is being described as an HBO-quality event with a True Detective vibe, mixing cosmic heroics with a grounded detective story.

Kyle Chandler is close to securing the role of Hal Jordan, and the series is set to be part of the DCU’s “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate. Written and executive produced by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic writer Tom King, Lanterns has already been greenlit by HBO. Fans of the Green Lantern mythos are eager to see who will ultimately be cast as John Stewart, with an official decision expected soon.
