Heartstopper fans can finally rejoice as there’s more to Nick and Charlie’s story! While the beloved Netflix show will not return for a fourth season, the storyline will be wrapped up in a feature film, as confirmed by the streaming platform.

Kit Connor will reprise his role as Nick Nelson, and Joe Locke will return as Charlie Spring. Both leads will also serve as executive producers for the film, which will be directed by Wash Westmoreland.

The film, which will serve as the series’ conclusion, was announced by Netflix on the third anniversary of Heartstopper’s premiere on April 22, 2022. In an interview with Tudum, creator, executive producer, and graphic novelist Alice Oseman shared her excitement about bringing the story to its end.

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said, expressing her gratitude to the “incredible” fans and everyone involved in the series so far. “I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion,” she added.

The movie will pick up where season 3 left off. The third season saw many of the couples, including Nick and Charlie, take their relationships to new heights. The season finale, titled Apart, delved into the challenges Nick and Charlie could face in a long-distance relationship as Nick contemplates university options away from home. The episode also explored the doubts that begin to surface as the reality of their situation sets in, alongside the struggles their friends face in love and friendships.

The movie will continue the story of Charlie, an anxious, openly gay overthinker, and Nick, a kind-hearted rugby player. The two form a deep bond when they are seated together in class, with Charlie believing he doesn’t stand a chance of anything more.

The release date for the movie has not yet been revealed, but fans can stream all three seasons of Heartstopper on Netflix in the meantime.
