Netflix is diving deeper into the vibrant world of “One Piece” by collaborating on a new anime adaptation with the manga’s creator, Eiichiro Oda, alongside publisher Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co. This upcoming anime, titled “The One Piece,” is distinct from the long-running “One Piece” anime series produced by Toei Animation, marking a fresh take on the beloved saga.

Set to cover the same storyline from Oda’s manga, “The One Piece” will commence at the point where both the existing anime and Netflix’s live-action adaptation begin: delving into the “East Blue saga,” centered around the adventurous journey of Monkey D. Luffy, the aspiring pirate king, and his crew.

This remake is currently in production at WIT Studio, renowned for its work on acclaimed series such as “Spy x Family” and the initial three seasons of “Attack on Titan.”

The collaborative team, announcing this development at Jump Festa 2024, promised a distinctive experience for viewers. They emphasized that “The One Piece” will leverage cutting-edge visual technology to present a fresh yet familiar reimagining of Luffy’s escapades through the cherished East Blue saga, setting it apart from the enduring TV anime series that has captivated audiences for over 25 years.

Netflix’s commitment to “One Piece” extends beyond this new anime project. The platform has already greenlit a second season for its live-action adaptation, which garnered both critical praise and a substantial audience upon its summer debut. The live-action series, created in partnership with Tomorrow Studios, continues the epic storytelling of “One Piece” in a live-action format, further expanding its reach.

Additionally, in January 2024, Eiichiro Oda will unveil a brand-new anime series titled “Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation” on Netflix. This series follows Ryuma, a samurai navigating a world disrupted by a formidable force—an ominous dragon capable of unleashing catastrophic destruction upon the land. This offering presents a new narrative and expands Oda’s creative universe beyond the boundaries of “One Piece,” showcasing his storytelling prowess in a distinct setting and storyline.
