Neon has unveiled the eerie yet captivating trailer for Together, a horror rom-com starring real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco. The film, written and directed by Michael Shanks, was a hot commodity at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it premiered in the Midnight section. Neon secured the distribution rights after winning a fierce bidding war.
The studio, which also distributed this year’s Best Picture winner Anora, describes Together as a genre-bending tale of love and terror. The story follows a couple—played by Brie and Franco—who move into a secluded countryside home, only to trigger a series of supernatural events that upend their relationship, their very existence, and even their physical forms.
The trailer starts on an uplifting note, showing the couple excitedly embarking on their new chapter. However, the mood shifts when Franco’s character spots a group of dogs eerily frozen in place at the edge of a nearby forest—a chilling omen of what’s to come. From there, the trailer builds tension with a rapid montage of ghostly figures sitting on a bed, mysterious doorways appearing out of nowhere, and paranormal forces taking hold of the couple’s bodies and minds.
Despite the film’s horror elements, the final moments of the trailer reinforce its core romantic theme, with the couple professing their love amid the chaos.
Brie and Franco, married for eight years, said they were instantly drawn to the project after Shanks approached them, citing their 2020 psychological thriller The Rental as an inspiration.
“This one felt right; not only was the script incredible, but our characters have been together for over a decade. Our real-life relationship felt like it could lend itself to the story in a meaningful way,” Franco shared during a Sundance press conference.
He then jokingly added that filming Together could have either ended in their divorce or made them even more co-dependent. “Luckily, it was the latter,” he quipped.
Together is set to hit theaters on August 1, 2025.
