NetherRealm Studios has announced an update regarding the crossplay feature for Mortal Kombat 1, revealing that it is set to arrive in February 2024. This much-anticipated addition won’t be supported in the Nintendo Switch version of the game due to likely technical limitations.
Mortal Kombat 1, the 12th mainline entry in the renowned fighting game series, had not initially included crossplay upon its launch on September 19. However, in a recent Kombat Kast livestream on December 13, developers confirmed that crossplay is slated for release in February 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Mortal Kombat 1. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch edition won’t be able to support this feature.
One of the upcoming updates for Mortal Kombat 1 includes a Wi-Fi filter, allowing players to adjust match preferences based on opponents’ internet connection quality. This addition is aimed at helping players avoid potential issues like lag and disconnections during matches.
The forthcoming update, expected to arrive soon, will not only introduce crossplay but also bring various gameplay tweaks, balance changes, and bug fixes. This patch will include adjustments for Kameo fighters like Kano and Sonya Blade. Additionally, the update will coincide with the debut of Quan Chi, set to become available on December 14 for Kombat Pack owners and on December 21 for all Mortal Kombat 1 players.
While the Nintendo Switch version won’t partake in crossplay, this new feature ensures a larger pool of players for online matches across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, enhancing the matchmaking experience for those platforms.
