Moana and Maui are set to return in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 hit film Moana. The makers have recently dropped a preview of a new song titled “We’re Back,” showcasing Moana’s spirit as she encourages her friends while embracing her role as a Wayfinder.

The music for Moana 2 is composed by the Grammy Award-winning duo Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow. In this new adventure, Moana and Maui will embark on a quest across the seas to reconnect with Moana’s wayfinding ancestors. The journey promises to challenge them like never before, as Moana reflects, “The ancestors called on me to reconnect our people across the entire ocean. It’s my job as Wayfinder to finish what has started. It will be harder than anything we have faced before.”

The preview beautifully captures Moana’s bravery and determination, with one verse from “We’re Back” echoing her character’s growth: “Oh, finally, we’re back/to who we’re meant to be.” The sneak peek also introduces Moana’s little sister, Simea, adding a new dynamic to the story.

Returning cast members include Auli‘i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, alongside Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger as Sina. New faces joining the ensemble include Hualalai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo.

The official synopsis for Moana 2 hints at an exciting plot: “Moana journeys to the far seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors.”

The original Moana was celebrated for its storytelling and resonance with audiences of all ages. Initially envisioned as a series, the sequel’s development was adapted into a film format following challenges posed by the pandemic.

Moana 2 is set to hit theaters on November 27, and fans can look forward to another inspiring and adventurous journey with their favorite characters!
