Disney has unveiled a new poster for Moana 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 animated hit. The poster provides a glimpse of the upcoming film, featuring an older Moana, voiced again by Auli’i Cravalho, standing on a beach. In the foreground, Maui’s iconic fish hook, symbolizing his return, is stuck in the sand next to an oar.
Moana 2 will be directed by David G. Derrick Jr. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively. Further casting details are yet to be announced.
Moana 2 Plot and Release Date
Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that Moana 2 is currently in development. The teaser trailer, which has already been released, shows Moana on a beach holding a seashell, hinting at her continued journey. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The film’s synopsis reveals: “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
The original Moana was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. It was a significant commercial success, grossing over $600 million worldwide. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
The poster’s imagery suggests an exciting continuation of Moana’s journey, with the presence of Maui’s fish hook indicating his pivotal role in the sequel.
