Miley Cyrus is no stranger to bold creative risks, but her latest project, Something Beautiful, nearly landed her in serious trouble. During a candid appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the pop icon revealed that she ended up in the ICU after filming a scene on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she rolled around on the sidewalk for her upcoming visual album.
“I filmed this video in October, and by November, on Thanksgiving, I was put in ICU for a moment,” Miley told Kimmel, noting that she only ended up there because the hospital was full during the busy holiday. What began as a daring artistic choice turned into a brutal infection—one that started around her knee and quickly escalated.
“My leg began to disintegrate… around the kneecap area,” Miley recalled. When her doctor asked what might have caused the infection, the memory hit her: filming on the notorious (and notoriously filthy) Hollywood Boulevard. When she explained it to the surgeon, his response? A horrified, “Yuck.” Even he, a man used to opening up cadavers, was grossed out.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Something Beautiful isn’t just a music video or album, it’s a full-blown visual spectacle described as a “pop opera” with fantasy elements and immersive storytelling. The visual film drops in theaters on June 12, following the release of her ninth studio album on May 30.
However, despite a decent production budget, Miley confessed that most of the money went straight into costumes, leaving little for practical matters like proper filming locations. Instead, she filmed guerrilla-style on the Walk of Fame in the dead of night. “I asked [Kimmel] if he had ever been there at that time,” she said, before adding, “I felt like it could have been my last day.”
Even though she admitted to second-guessing whether she should share the story at all, Kimmel praised her for her dedication. “You almost gave your life for this project,” he said—and he wasn’t exaggerating.
As wild as it sounds, the incident highlights Miley’s total commitment to her vision, even when it leads to unexpected and dangerous consequences. And for fans, it promises that Something Beautiful might just live up to its name—battle scars and all.
