Microsoft has launched a new app compatible with macOS, iOS, Android devices, web browsers, and Windows PCs, allowing users to run Windows and Windows applications seamlessly. This innovative app enables users to stream a copy of Windows from various sources, significantly enhancing cross-platform capabilities.
One of the key features of the app is its customizable home screen, which allows users to tailor their experience according to their preferences. The app also supports multi-monitor setups and USB redirection, enabling users to utilize local devices such as printers, webcams, and storage devices as if they were directly connected to a cloud PC. This functionality aims to provide a more integrated and efficient working environment for users on different devices.
The app not only consolidates multiple services but also enhances device management for IT administrators, simplifies account switching, and includes support for Microsoft’s Relayed RDP Shortpath and Windows 365 for frontline workers.
Despite the benefits, the new app has faced criticism from some users, primarily due to its confusing name. Many expressed frustrations, stating that searching for solutions or assistance with Windows applications could become cumbersome, especially with the proliferation of services sharing similar names.
This release follows Microsoft’s recent announcement regarding significant upgrades to the Windows 11 app. These enhancements aim to optimize memory usage and improve loading speeds by 50%, ultimately enhancing performance across a variety of applications and improving the overall user experience.
