It’s official — Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is engaged to his longtime partner, Melanie Hamrick. The former ballerina recently confirmed the news publicly, saying that the two have actually been engaged for a few years now. But before you get excited about wedding bells, Hamrick made it clear: there’s no rush to walk down the aisle.

Jagger, 81, and Hamrick, 37, aren’t in a hurry to tie the knot. In fact, getting married isn’t a big priority for them at the moment. “Maybe one day we’ll get married, maybe not,” Hamrick shared in an interview with Paris Match on April 9. “We’re so happy with our life right now that I’d be afraid to change anything.”

What makes their relationship work, according to Hamrick, is mutual support and simply making each other happy. “That’s what matters most,” she said in a separate interview with The Times. “We just try to be there for each other.”

The love story between the rock legend and the ballet star didn’t start with fireworks. The two met backstage during a concert in Japan back in 2014 while they were both on tour, but Hamrick says there was no instant chemistry. They didn’t even exchange phone numbers at first. It wasn’t until four months later that Jagger invited her to meet him in Zurich, and that’s when their romance officially began.

Their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing in the public eye. The couple’s 44-year age gap has drawn criticism, but Hamrick isn’t fazed by the opinions of others. “People are always going to have something to say,” she said. “If you focus too much on what others think, it’ll hold you back in life.”

The couple has even worked together professionally. In 2019, they collaborated on a ballet performance called Porte Rouge, which combined Hamrick’s choreography with some of Jagger’s music. Though the project was a success, Hamrick now prefers to keep her work life and personal life separate.

Jagger and Hamrick have a child together — their son, Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger — who was born in 2016.

So while wedding plans may not be on the table right now, it’s clear the couple is deeply connected and content with the life they’ve built together.
