Michelle Yeoh is reflecting on her enduring relationship with husband Jean Todt, opening up about the love, support, and mutual respect that has carried them through more than two decades together. The Oscar-winning actress, who marked her second wedding anniversary with Todt on July 27, shared in an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE that the foundation of their bond lies in appreciating each other every single day.
The couple’s story began in June 2004, when Yeoh and the former Ferrari CEO first crossed paths in Shanghai. Just a month later, they were engaged — a whirlwind decision that turned into a lifelong commitment. Despite being together for 21 years, they only tied the knot two years ago. “We’ve been together for 21 years, and we’ve been married for two,” Yeoh said with a smile.
She described Todt as her unwavering pillar of support, particularly when it comes to her demanding career. “I am so blessed because he’s so supportive of what I do. I love my work. This is my passion. He never turns around and says you spend a lot of time away from me, which I have sometimes, but he’s very understanding,” she explained. In fact, Yeoh was traveling on the day of their anniversary this year, a reality Todt has always embraced with grace.
When asked about the secret behind their happy marriage, Yeoh shared a philosophy the couple lives by: “What we say is, ‘Every day should be a celebration.’ Why do we wait for a special day?” For them, love is about cherishing the ordinary moments instead of placing all the weight on milestones.
Adding to the romance, Todt has a unique way of marking their relationship: he counts their time together in days, hours, and even minutes. “He doesn’t count by years. He tells me we’ve been together 7,000-[something] days. And if I really ask, he’ll give me hours and minutes too,” Yeoh revealed. This detail was even highlighted in their wedding program in 2023, which read, “Today after 6,992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together.”
The couple celebrated their union twice, first in Switzerland and later in December 2023 in Yeoh’s hometown of Ipoh, Malaysia. To mark their second anniversary this year, Yeoh posted a sweet photo of them holding hands in Paris, captioned, “Happy Anniversary with love from Paris.”
Their story stands as a reminder that love is not just about grand gestures but about the quiet constancy of partnership, support, and celebrating life together every day.
