Michelle Pfeiffer, a Hollywood legend with a career spanning 50 movies since 1980, had her breakout role in the 1983 film “Scarface.” However, just before that milestone, she starred in a musical – one of only two in her filmography. The musical in question is “Grease 2,” a film that, in recent years, has gained recognition among those with discerning taste as the superior of the two “Grease” movies.
Pfeiffer, who embraced her starring role as Stephanie Zinone in “Grease 2,” often shares throwback photos from the musical rom-com on her Instagram. Recently, she took to Instagram again to address inaccuracies in quotes attributed to her in an article. The article misspelled her name as “Michelle Pheiffer” and claimed she took the role in “Grease 2” because she was young and didn’t know better. It also quoted her as expressing hatred for the film. Pfeiffer, in response, clarified in her Stories, “This project is and has always been so special to me and my history – One should never trust a publication to get quotes right if they can’t even bother to spell the person’s name correctly.”
Released in 1982, “Grease 2” also features Maxwell Caulfield, Lorna Luft (Judy Garland’s daughter), Pamela Adlon (later the creator of the acclaimed TV series “Better Things”), and Christopher McDonald. The film also sees the return of Eve Arden, Dody Goodman, and Sid Caesar reprising their roles from the first “Grease” movie. It introduces Tab Hunter, a golden age of Hollywood actor, who performs the sex education song “Reproduction.”
Aside from “Grease 2,” Pfeiffer’s only other musical movie appearance is in the 2007 version of “Hairspray.” In this film, she co-stars with Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Zac Efron, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, and James Marsden. Given the quality of her performances in these musicals, fans might hope to see Pfeiffer in more musicals in the future.
