It first looked like the New York Mets were going to stay quiet this offseason. Not many big rumors. Not much noise.

Then everything changed.

The Mets suddenly made a surprise move. They agreed to a three year deal worth 126 million dollars with infielder Bo Bichette.

The interesting part is that the Philadelphia Phillies believed they were close to signing him. That made the move even more shocking.

This happened right after the Mets failed to sign Kyle Tucker. They missed out on him. But instead of slowing down, they quickly shifted plans.

Then they made another strong move.

The Mets traded for center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox. That trade gave them more power in the lineup. It also added strong defense in the outfield.

Now Robert joins Juan Soto. That gives New York another serious bat in the middle of the order.

Last season did not go well for the Mets. They missed the postseason. Expectations were high. Results were not.

Because of that, the front office is clearly not sitting back. They are being aggressive.

Some believe they are not done yet.

There is talk that the Mets could explore a trade for veteran outfielder Byron Buxton. He would add even more power and experience.

The team is also trying to replace the production of Pete Alonso. His bat was a big part of their offense. Losing that kind of power is not easy.

If Buxton becomes available, it would not be surprising to see the Mets make a serious push. They have already shown they are willing to spend and trade to improve.

The message is simple. The Mets do not want another disappointing season. They are trying to build a stronger lineup. And they are moving fast to do it.
