Meghan Markle recently shared a deeply personal and emotional experience on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder while discussing the challenges of miscarriage. In the April 15 episode, she was joined by Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code and CEO of Moms First. Saujani, who has also been open about her struggles with miscarriage, created a space for a candid conversation about the pain and difficulty of continuing to work and perform while grieving such a loss.
Markle, who had previously shared her miscarriage experience in a 2020 essay for The New York Times, recalled losing her second child—conceived between the births of her son Archie and daughter Lilibet. She described the emotional challenge of having to “detach” from the child they had hoped for, something she said is necessary in the face of such grief.
The Duchess of Sussex explained how losing a child is an incredibly painful experience that many go through but few openly discuss. Saujani, who has had several miscarriages herself, praised Markle’s insight into the subject, stating that it felt as though the Duchess was reading from her own personal diary.
During the conversation, the two women also bonded over their shared experiences of motherhood. Markle expressed her joy and fulfillment in being a mother, calling it “my favorite thing.” The episode provided a powerful and relatable message about the importance of acknowledging grief while also finding strength in the love and joy that comes with motherhood.
