Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton reportedly cried over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress

A new book by royal expert Tom Quinn, titled Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, reveals some surprising details about a behind-the-scenes disagreement between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton before Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018. According to Quinn, both Meghan and Kate were brought to tears over a dispute about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.

The argument, shared by a former royal staffer in the book, wasn’t just a simple disagreement but an emotional clash about the fit of the little princess’s gown. The staffer explained that both women said things they later regretted during the heated moment, with emotions running so high that they both ended up crying. This contrasts with earlier reports that suggested only Kate was upset. Meghan herself denied those earlier claims during her 2021 Oprah interview, saying she was the one who got upset, a version supported by Prince Harry in his memoir Spare.

Harry recalled that Kate had complained about Charlotte’s dress being too big, prompting Meghan to offer to have it tailored immediately. Still, tensions lingered despite their efforts to fix the issue.

Ajay Mirpuri, the dressmaker involved, told the Daily Mail in 2023 that all the bridesmaid dresses needed last-minute adjustments. He said there were no disagreements in his presence and that dealing with last-minute wedding challenges like this is stressful but normal. Mirpuri sympathized with everyone involved, knowing how important it was for the children to look perfect on such a big day.

Beyond the dress drama, Quinn’s book also touches on the reportedly distant relationship between Meghan and Kate. Despite both women sharing the experience of being outsiders in the royal family, the book suggests they never really became close.
