The latest claims from Katie Nicholl’s book The New Royals add another chapter to the long-running rumors about Meghan Markle’s rocky relationship with palace staff. According to Nicholl, during a menu tasting for her 2018 wedding at Windsor Castle, Meghan reportedly got upset when she found egg in a dish that was supposed to be vegan and macrobiotic. The situation allegedly escalated to the point where Queen Elizabeth II had to step in, reportedly telling Meghan, “In this family we don’t speak to people like that.”
This incident fits into a broader narrative of Meghan being labeled “Duchess of Difficult” by palace aides, described as swinging between “overfriendly” and “irritated” when things didn’t go her way. However, some insiders have defended her, suggesting that the pressures of adapting to the rigid and complex palace environment made her struggle with the role.
Meghan has also denied earlier allegations of bullying a palace employee in 2018. While she and Prince Harry have since stepped back from royal duties and moved to the U.S., stories like these keep surfacing, underscoring ongoing tensions and cultural clashes during their time in the monarchy. The debate over her tenure as a working royal continues to provoke strong opinions on both sides.
