Sadie Sink just hit a major career milestone—and her Stranger Things co-stars were front and center to cheer her on.
The 22-year-old actress officially returned to her theater roots with the opening night of John Proctor Is the Villain at New York City’s Booth Theatre. Joining her for the big night were familiar faces from Hawkins: Gaten Matarazzo, Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, and Finn Wolfhard all showed up in style, posing for photos and supporting their friend from the front row.
Sink stars as Shelby Holcomb in the new Broadway play by Kimberly Belflower, directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor. The show takes a bold, modern look at feminism, power, and how young people see the world—and it’s already earning buzz for its raw honesty.
Speaking to People before the curtain went up, Sink said the script immediately stood out to her. “Kimberly’s writing grabs you,” she said. “It talks about heavy things but does it in a way that’s honest and digestible. I’m really proud of what we’re saying with this piece.”
John Proctor Is the Villain is set in a small high school in northeast Georgia during the height of the #MeToo movement. It follows a group of junior girls who form a feminist club while studying Arthur Miller’s The Crucible in class. As they dig deeper into the play’s themes, they begin to challenge its portrayal of John Proctor as a hero—and start drawing parallels to the power structures in their own lives.
