Paramount+ is diving headfirst into the world of betrayal, secrets, and deadly payback with its new original thriller series The Revenge Club, and the cast is already turning heads.
Leading the series are Martin Compston (Line of Duty) and Aimée-Ffion Edwards (Slow Horses), who will portray Callum and Emily, two members of a divorce support group that spirals from emotional healing to cold-blooded revenge. The series is based on The Othello Club, an upcoming novel by JD Pennington set to be released this October.
What starts as a group therapy session for the heartbroken soon warps into something far more sinister. The group members, all nursing wounds from failed relationships, decide to act out their revenge fantasies, “Strangers on a Train” style, by targeting each other’s exes. It’s all meant to be harmless mischief until the bodies start dropping.
The Revenge Club cast details
The supporting cast includes a strong mix of acclaimed British talent:
-
Meera Syal (Mrs Sidhu Investigates) as the sharp-witted Rita
-
Sharon Rooney (Barbie) as the emotionally raw Rachel
-
Douglas Henshall (Shetland) as the brooding Steve
-
Chaneil Kular (Sex Education) as Tej
-
Amit Shah (Happy Valley) as Malcolm
On the law enforcement side, Aoife Kennan (Vera) and Rob Malone (The Witcher) play police officers Rosa and Leon, who are drawn into a growing case of suspicious deaths. Other confirmed cast members include Niamh Walsh, Wil Coban, Christina Bennington, and Eoin Duffy, rounding out what promises to be a gripping ensemble.
The plot, based on Pennington’s forthcoming novel, centers around Emily, a woman whose perfect life crumbles after betrayal by her husband. During therapy, she connects with others similarly scorned. Over drinks and shared frustrations, they concoct a plan: small acts of revenge against each other’s exes, nothing serious, no one gets hurt until someone ends up dead. And then another.
As the group’s pact begins to unravel and DI Rosa Hawkes closes in, trust becomes a dangerous currency. In Emily’s world, trust was already a casualty of divorce, and now, it may be the difference between freedom and prison.
Behind the scenes, The Revenge Club is created by Gabbie Asher, known for her work on The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Call the Midwife, and Waterloo Road. Asher will also serve as executive producer alongside JD Pennington. Episodes will be penned by Matt Jones (The Split) and Adam Usden (Lupin).
Sebastian Cardwell, Paramount’s Deputy Chief Content Officer UK, commented:
“The Revenge Club is a sharp, stylish and darkly funny thriller, brought to life by a brilliant cast and an exceptional creative team. We’re thrilled to be part of this gripping project and to champion it as a standout addition to our expanding slate of bold, original UK content.”
While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, anticipation is already high for what looks to be one of Paramount+’s most compelling dramas to date.
