There’s been a small but disappointing update for fans hoping to see more of Mare of Easttown. The HBO crime drama, which first aired in April 2021, was loved by both critics and viewers. It starred Kate Winslet as a tough detective named Mare Sheehan, who was trying to solve a local murder and a disappearance in a small Pennsylvania town. The show had strong acting, deep emotion, and great writing, which led to high ratings and several Emmy wins.
Recently, Julianne Nicholson, who played Mare’s best friend Lori, was asked about the future of the series. In an interview, she shared that she still keeps in touch with the show’s creator, Brad Ingelsby. She praised him for his talent and said she loved being part of the show. However, she didn’t give a clear answer on whether another season is happening. Her comments were warm but vague, which has left fans wondering if anything is really in the works.
Mare of Easttown was always meant to be a one-season miniseries, so a second season was never promised. But the success of the show has kept people hoping. The finale had over 1.5 million viewers in the U.S., and the show has a 95 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With that kind of love, it wouldn’t be surprising if HBO considered bringing it back, just like it did with Big Little Lies.
Nicholson’s answer might seem uncertain, but the way she spoke about the show could mean something is quietly in motion. She may not be allowed to say anything just yet. That often happens when early talks or ideas are floating around behind the scenes.
There’s also a reason why things might be delayed. Brad Ingelsby is already working on a different crime series called Task, which is also set in Philadelphia and stars Mark Ruffalo. So even if a second season of Mare of Easttown does get the green light, it likely won’t happen for a while.
Still, there’s hope. The first season told a gripping story full of heartbreak and real emotion. Fans want to return to that world and see where Mare’s life goes next. If Winslet, Nicholson, and the rest of the cast are open to coming back, season 2 could eventually happen. But for now, we just have to wait and hope.
