Louis Tomlinson recently appeared on the Diary of a CEO podcast, where he opened up about his upcoming tour, new songs, and a three-part docu-series he’s working on with Zayn Malik. During the conversation, he also spoke about losing his close friend and former bandmate Liam Payne last year. Louis said it was one of the hardest things he’s ever had to accept. He shared that Niall Horan called him soon after the news broke, and the two talked about how painful it was. The loss brought back memories of when Louis lost his younger sister Félicité five years ago.

Louis explained that he was in his car in Los Angeles when he found out about Liam’s passing. He said Niall was the one who told him. Hearing it from another One Direction member made it even more surreal. He said he instantly got a strange feeling, the same kind he felt when he learned about his sister’s death.

Talking about both Liam and Félicité, Louis said it’s heartbreaking when you see someone you love struggling and you try everything you can, but it still feels like it’s not enough. He admitted that he used to think he could somehow fix things for them, but he now realizes it was something much deeper than anything he could have done.

Louis also spoke honestly about how much Liam was going through at the time. He said that when he made a post after Liam’s death, he wanted people to remember him for who he truly was — kind, talented, and full of life. Louis said he could talk forever about how amazing Liam was. He shared that back in their One Direction days, everyone in the band looked up to Liam, even if they were too proud to admit it then.
