Rapper Lil Nas X, 26, has been released from a Los Angeles jail after paying a seventy five thousand dollar bond. His arrest earlier this week had shocked fans and created a wave of headlines. In court, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. For now, the chaos around him has slowed down, at least temporarily.
The arrest happened after a strange and public incident. Police found Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, wandering completely naked on Ventura Avenue in Studio City. At first, officers thought he had overdosed. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, then taken into custody. He spent over three days in jail before being let go.
Outside the courthouse in Van Nuys, he was seen in a light blue jumpsuit and sandals. He held some papers in his hand, quickly walked to a white Jeep, and left without speaking to the press. Photos showed him looking calm, which stood in contrast to the dramatic scene of his arrest earlier.
The charges are very serious. He is facing four felony counts. Three of them are for battery that caused injury to police officers, and the fourth is for resisting an official order. If found guilty, he could spend up to five years in a California state prison. Police say he became physical with officers when they responded to reports about a naked man walking around the streets.
Witnesses also reported seeing him act strangely outside a West Hollywood hotel just before the arrest. Concern for his mental and physical well being quickly turned into a legal battle. The whole series of events has drawn huge media attention.
He remained in custody through the weekend before his Monday hearing. In court, he strongly denied all the charges by pleading not guilty. His lawyers are now working on the case and preparing for the upcoming hearings.
