Liev Schreiber, best known for his role in Ray Donovan, spoke candidly for the first time about his 16-year-old daughter Kai coming out as transgender. In an interview with Variety, Schreiber shared that Kai never had to formally come out to him or her mother, Naomi Watts, since she had always been authentically herself.

“Kai was always who Kai is,” Schreiber said. “The most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns. But to be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me, only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.”

Kai has already been making waves in the fashion world, debuting on the runway for Valentino and starring in a campaign for the luxury brand. She is set to join her father and his wife, Taylor Neisen, at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place at the Table Gala in New York City, a nonprofit supporting homeless LGBTQ youth.

Schreiber stressed the importance of advocacy for the broader community, especially those who face harsher challenges. “This isn’t just about representing the trans community,” he said. “This is a community of people who don’t have great resources, who aren’t being protected or supported by their families. Some of them are not surviving it.”

He praised Kai’s courage and confidence, calling her a “fighter,” and emphasized how vital it is for her to own her identity without fear of public judgment.

On the professional front, Liev Schreiber was last seen in the 2023 film Asteroid City and will soon appear in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller Caught Stealing, alongside a star-studded cast including Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Regina King.
