LEGO and Pokemon are officially joining forces, and the first wave of sets is hitting stores this month. The initial trio features Pikachu, Eevee, and the original three starters’ evolutions, giving fans a solid start. Each set captures the fun of Pokemon in LEGO form, with builds that are just as playful as they are collectible.
But this is only the beginning. According to leaks and insider reports, LEGO has at least 10 more Pokemon sets planned for later this year. These upcoming sets are expected to be smaller in scale, more affordable, and introduce LEGO’s new Smart Play system to the Pokemon universe. Smart Play is a way for the bricks themselves to interact, using lights, sounds, and movement sensors to make play more dynamic.
Some of the rumored sets include Squirrel’s Training Buggy Adventure, Charmander’s Wild Encounter with Geodude, Pikachu’s Training House, Cubone vs Gengar’s Ghost Challenge, Jolteon vs Charizard, Scorbunny Evolution, Stadium Bus, Eevee Evolution, Dojo House with Riolu, and Mewtwo Lab. Of these, the Mewtwo Lab stands out as a potential display piece, featuring the Legendary Psychic Pokemon encased in glass.
Smart Play works through a Smart Brick that reacts when connected to other Smart pieces like minifigures or tags. The brick can light up, play sounds, and sense movement. While LEGO’s first Smart Play sets, themed around Star Wars, will release in March, the Pokemon sets are expected to be part of a secondary rollout later in the year.
Currently, leaks suggest that only Pikachu’s Training House will include a Smart Brick. Without it, the Smart Play functions won’t work, though it’s possible that pieces from other sets could be used across builds once the first Smart Play Star Wars sets launch.
For fans of Pokemon and LEGO alike, this expansion signals a bigger, more interactive future for both brands. The combination of beloved characters, creative builds, and the new Smart Play system could make these upcoming sets the most exciting Pokemon LEGO releases yet.
