USC freshman Bronny James experienced a noteworthy moment in his budding college basketball career during a crosstown rivalry matchup against UCLA, receiving his first-ever technical foul. The incident occurred when the son of NBA icon LeBron James blocked Dylan Andrews’ shot in the first half, energetically expressing his triumph with a spirited “give me that (stuff)” directed at the Bruins guard.
As a consequence of the technical foul, James was sidelined, contributing a modest two points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of play during USC’s 65-50 loss to UCLA at the Galen Center. The Trojans find themselves in a challenging position, having suffered five consecutive losses and currently occupying the last spot in the Pac-12 standings with a 2-7 conference record. Despite a promising 5-2 start to the season, USC has struggled, losing four of their last 15 games since December 2, including a defeat against Gonzaga.
The early part of James’ college journey was marked by a minutes restriction, stemming from a health scare over the summer. In late July, he experienced cardiac arrest during a preseason workout, causing him to miss the initial eight games of the season. James returned to action against Long Beach State on December 10, with the minutes restriction lifted earlier this month.
James showcased his growing prowess in recent games, making his first start against Colorado and logging 25 minutes. In a subsequent matchup against Arizona, he achieved a season-high 30 minutes, contributing 11 points, six assists, and five rebounds. The highlight of James’ emerging career occurred in the second and third conference games, where he scored 15 points against Oregon State and followed it up with a 10-point performance, including three assists, in a victory over Cal.
Despite the challenging stretch, USC looks to turn things around as they commence the second half of Pac-12 conference play with a home game against Oregon on February 1.
