Lee Jong Suk is officially returning to the K-drama scene after a three-year break. His last drama, Big Mouth, aired in 2022 and marked his first role after completing military service. Now, he’s taking on a new lead role in Law and the City, which is set to premiere in July. He’ll be starring opposite Moon Ga Young, who plays his romantic interest. The main cast also includes Kang You Seok, Ryu Hye Young, and Im Seong Jae. Together, the five form a group nicknamed the “Associate Attorneys Avengers” for their roles in the show.
At a press conference held on July 1, as reported by Allkpop, Lee Jong Suk spoke about why he chose this particular project. After taking on a variety of genres in his career, he said he wanted something that felt comforting — a story with heart and an ensemble cast he could connect with. He explained that he was drawn to this drama because it offered warmth, a slower pace, and a sense of reality, unlike many legal dramas that focus on intense court battles or grand themes of justice.
In Law and the City, he plays Ahn Ju Hyeong, a talented lawyer who has worked at the same law firm for nine years. While he has the skill and experience to start his own firm, he chooses to stay where he is. Lee shared that the show is less about defeating villains or showcasing dramatic courtroom moments, and more about everyday life — how people live, work, and support one another.
Moon Ga Young echoed his sentiments, saying the drama focuses on human relationships and how people grow through the connections they make. Instead of high-stakes legal drama, the show is about people trying to make their way in the world.
