When Taylor Swift began appearing in the private box of the Kansas City Chiefs to support Travis Kelce, the star tight end found himself in the spotlight. His football jersey sales soared by an astounding 400% after his relationship with the “Love Story” singer became public—a surge in popularity attributed entirely to his impressive performance on the field, and not merely due to his association with the famous blonde singer.
Perhaps best capturing the sentiment, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick remarked, “Travis Kelce has had a lot of big catches in his career … This would be the biggest.” Ever since Kelce and Taylor Swift, affectionately dubbed “Tayvis/Traylor,” became an item, any discussion about his romantic life has come under intense scrutiny. In September, E! News reported that Kristin Cavallari appeared to express interest when she admitted to having a crush on America’s beloved tight end during her podcast, “Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari.” In the same episode, she candidly confessed her feelings to Kelce, telling him she was “in love with him.”
Despite being previously linked to country singer Chase Rice, Cavallari has been single and seemingly open to new connections since her divorce from NFL alum and former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. If she has a penchant for strapping football players, she certainly wouldn’t be the first. Nonetheless, Cavallari is adamant about clarifying that her remarks regarding Kelce were taken out of context. In essence, things are not what they may seem.
In September, during an episode of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari hosted Travis Kelce and fondly recalled his 2016 dating show, “Catching Kelce,” among other topics. The show’s premise was to help Kelce find love, though, as we now know, he didn’t ultimately require assistance. Despite his initial connection with Maya Benberry, it wasn’t a lasting match. “You were 100 percent my TV crush when the show was on,” Cavallari shared with the NFL player. However, as of October, the “Very Cavallari” star is backtracking on her previous comments. She told E! News, “What’s so funny is everyone was like, ‘Kristin was shooting her shot with Travis.’ I’m like, ‘I actually wasn’t there.’ If I really have a crush on someone, I’m not gonna tell you I had a huge crush on you and was in love with you. I’ve got more game than that.” Alright!
In all fairness to Cavallari, she’s certainly not the only celebrity to have developed a crush on Kelce. Reba McEntire, known as the Queen of Country, also confessed her admiration for the Chiefs player, playfully expressing her “devastation” at his involvement with Taylor Swift. “Oh my gosh, I am so mad at [Taylor] because I had a crush on [Travis],” McEntire joked on “Today.” She added with a smile that her boyfriend Rex Linn doesn’t seem bothered by her fondness for Kelce.
While Kristin Cavallari may no longer harbor romantic feelings for Travis Kelce (or so we think), his appearance on her podcast shed light on the type of woman he’s looking for. “My mother is an absolute angel, so I kind of base who I look at based off of how kind-hearted and sweet my mother is,” Travis told Cavallari on “Let’s Be Honest.” “You gotta have some sort of sweetness to you.” As for deal breakers, the tight end has no time for anyone who’s high-maintenance. “If you’re arrogant, snooty or just higher or above people, that’s the biggest turn-off for me,” he added.
The fortunate news for Travis, although possibly not as thrilling for Cavallari or Reba McEntire, is that his mother, Donna Kelce, appears to get along splendidly with Taylor Swift. According to a source, “Donna likes Taylor and thinks she’s very sweet and down to earth.” Similarly, Travis’ father Ed Kelce is a devoted fan of Swift. Speaking with People on October 24, he praised the singer as “very, very sweet, very charming, down-to-earth.” He went on to share a touching observation about Taylor, saying, “I’ll tell you something very special that I noticed about Taylor the first time I met her… she gets up… and starts picking up empty bottles, cans, plates that are scattered around… And I’m just thinking, I don’t think she got the diva memo. She didn’t get the spoiled musician.” It sounds like she’s a real gem in their eyes!
