Kim Yoo Jung, a familiar face in the entertainment industry since her childhood, has seamlessly grown into one of the most in-demand young actresses today. Now 25, she’s gearing up for a bold new chapter with her role in the upcoming drama Dear X, where she stars alongside Kim Young Dae, Kim Do Hoon, and more. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about initially being hesitant to accept the part — until one key factor changed her mind: the director. It was none other than Lee Eung Bok, known for hit dramas like Sweet Home, Descendants of the Sun, and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. His vision and direction ultimately convinced her to take the leap.
In her chat with Cosmopolitan Korea, Kim Yoo Jung revealed that the character of Baek Ah Jin was both fascinating and intimidating. “The original webtoon is quite famous, and I’d heard the story was really compelling,” she shared. “But the role itself was difficult and honestly, I was scared to take it on.” That all changed after meeting director Lee Eung Bok. “He took the time to explain why he believed I was the right person for the role. After hearing that, I felt confident moving forward.”
For Kim Yoo Jung, it’s not just the script or character that draws her to a project — it’s the people she works with. She emphasized how much chemistry on set matters to her. “Of course, the role is important, but so is the connection with the director and the team,” she said. “I trusted him, and that made all the difference.” That strong synergy helped turn her initial doubts into a fulfilling experience.
Fans last saw Kim Yoo Jung in a brief but fun appearance as Choi Min Ah in Netflix’s Chicken Nugget. Her most recent lead role was alongside Song Kang in My Demon, a supernatural romance that received plenty of international love for its visuals and chemistry.
Now, in Dear X, she takes on the intense role of a ruthless top star, Baek Ah Jin. Her character is supported by Yoon Joon Seo, played by Kim Young Dae, who remains by her side, letting love guide his actions. With its blend of drama and emotion, Dear X is already generating buzz ahead of its planned 2025 release.
