Kim Kardashian testified in court on May 13 about the terrifying 2016 robbery that happened to her in Paris. She appeared at the trial wearing a stunning 22-carat diamond ring—reportedly bought using the insurance money she received after the $10 million jewelry theft. The new ring is even bigger than the 20-carat one that was stolen during the incident.
According to Page Six, Kim used part of the insurance payout to purchase the ring from her trusted jeweler, Lorraine Schwartz—the same person who made the original stolen piece. The ring holds emotional value as well as financial.
The 20-carat emerald-cut diamond that was taken during the robbery had been a gift from her ex-husband, Kanye West. It was meant to be an upgraded engagement ring. Kanye had earlier proposed with a 15-carat cushion-cut ring, which Kim still owns and cherishes.
In a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim reflected on that time. She revealed the 15-carat ring was the only valuable piece she didn’t bring to Paris. She recalled Kanye warning her not to wear both rings at the same time, saying, “Are you looking to get robbed?”
At the court hearing, Kim wore over $3 million worth of jewelry, including a necklace from Samer Halimeh New York and a diamond ear cuff by Briony Raymond. She also wore a meaningful diamond anklet that was a Mother’s Day gift from her daughter, North, featuring the birthstones of all four of her kids.
Her outfit included a vintage blazer dress by John Galliano, Saint Laurent heels, Alaïa sunglasses, and a sleek bun. Her mother, Kris Jenner, supported her in court, dressed in a plaid blazer and Gucci sunglasses.
Kim emotionally recounted the horrifying night of the robbery, which took place at Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week. She said she feared she would be raped and murdered. Ten men—most of them elderly—have been charged in the case, including the alleged mastermind, Yunis Abbas.
