Kevin Bacon recently shared a chilling behind-the-scenes story from the making of Wild Things (1998), which took an unexpected turn during the filming of a scene by a river. In a Variety video segment, the actor recounted how a seemingly normal day on set turned into a real-life crime moment when a dead body was discovered floating in the swamp.

While shooting a scene surrounded by mosquitoes, Bacon recalled that a crew member spotted a “floater”—a body floating in the river. The incident was immediately communicated over the walkie-talkie, and Bacon vividly remembers the strange moment when he heard, “Hey, I think I just saw a floater.” As it turned out, the body was later confirmed to be real, and authorities were called to handle the situation. According to Bacon, the police retrieved the body and ensured it didn’t interfere with the film’s shot.

Bacon humorously pointed out that the strange occurrence seemed to be “indicative of the vibe of the movie,” which revolves around dark and twisted plots. The Wild Things cast included Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, and Bill Murray, among others, and it quickly became a cult classic known for its erotic crime thriller elements and shocking twists.

The film, which grossed over USD 67 million worldwide, follows a high school guidance counselor (played by Dillon) who gets accused of a crime by two female students, with the investigation uncovering a web of deception and lies. The movie spawned three direct-to-DVD sequels, maintaining its place in pop culture history for its suspenseful and provocative themes.
