Kelly Clarkson has decided to put her Las Vegas residency on hold so she can focus on her family. On Wednesday, August 6, the singer shared that her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has been dealing with health issues and she wants to be fully present for their two children, 10-year-old River Rose and 8-year-old Remington Alexander.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Clarkson explained, “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas.” She added that while she usually keeps her personal life private, her children’s father’s illness made it important for her to step away from work for the time being.

She also took a moment to acknowledge her fans, many of whom had already purchased tickets for the remaining shows. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” she wrote. Clarkson’s August Studio Sessions were an extension of her successful Planet Hollywood residency, which had been drawing strong crowds.

The singer’s decision has struck a chord with many working parents, as it reflects the difficult balance between career and family. Earlier this year, in a conversation with Kylie Kelce on her podcast Not Gonna Lie, Clarkson opened up about the challenges of co-parenting. She admitted that it can be frustrating at times, joking about how she often has to juggle unexpected situations while still being present for her kids.

Clarkson and Blackstock were married for seven years before separating in 2020. They finalized their divorce in 2022, but have continued to co-parent their two children. In a January 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Clarkson admitted that the divorce had been a painful chapter in her life, but she found comfort in being able to pour her emotions into her music, particularly her album Chemistry.
