Kathryn Hahn is reportedly in talks to join Disney’s live action remake of Tangled.
According to new reports, the actor is being considered for the role of Mother Gothel. The character is the main villain of the 2010 animated film.
Mother Gothel is known as a manipulative figure who keeps Rapunzel hidden away. She uses Rapunzel’s magical hair to remain young forever.
The project has been in development for some time. It was briefly revived in October 2025, when Scarlett Johansson was linked to the role.
Johansson was said to be in early discussions but later stepped away. Her exit was reportedly due to scheduling conflicts connected to The Batman: Part II and a planned Exorcist reboot.
After her departure, fans began calling for Kathryn Hahn to take over the role. Many pointed to her performances in Agatha All Along and The Studio as a strong fit for the character.
Deadline has now reported that Hahn is officially in talks with the studio to play Mother Gothel.
Casting for the lead roles has already been confirmed. Titans actor Teagan Croft will play Rapunzel. Disney Channel star Milo Manheim has been cast as Flynn Rider.
The characters were originally voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the animated version.
Manheim reacted to the announcement on Instagram. He shared a side by side image of himself and the animated Flynn Rider. In the caption, he said he was grateful and promised to do the character justice.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey. He previously directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man.
Production duties will be handled by Kristin Burr. Her past credits include Freakier Friday and Disney’s live action Cruella.
