Kate Winslet recently shared a touching story about her son Bear’s reaction to watching Titanic, her iconic 1997 film. During the premiere of her new movie Lee in New York, Winslet told E! News that her 10-year-old son was deeply moved by the film’s tragic ending, admitting, “He cried a lot,” and had to pause the movie multiple times because he was “very upset.”
While Winslet mentioned that her children haven’t watched all of her films, she revealed that her two older kids have a particular fondness for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a film she starred in with Jim Carrey. Winslet joked about her disappointment upon discovering that they had watched it without her, saying, “They’ll just sort of say, ‘Oh, I saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind the other day.’ I’m like, ‘What? You watched it without me?’”
Reflecting on Eternal Sunshine, she noted how it resonated with audiences, calling it a “Zeitgeist” moment and expressing her desire to watch it with her kids one day—only to find they had beaten her to it.
Winslet also reminisced about her first experience watching Titanic in a packed New York theater. During a Q&A for her movie Lee, she recounted sneaking into the cinema with friends, sharing the excitement of seeing the film that would go on to become a multi-Academy Award-winning classic.
In other interviews, Winslet has been candid about her feelings regarding her film roles, including her iconic character Rose DeWitt Bukater, emphasizing how different she is from her on-screen personas.
