A new political fight might be brewing between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Harris is releasing a memoir called 107 Days, and there’s talk that it could include negative comments about her time in the Biden administration. If that happens, Biden’s team is reportedly ready to hit back hard.
Political expert Mark Halperin said on a news show that people close to Biden have been holding onto damaging stories about Harris. If they feel attacked by her book, they might go public with those stories. He said they are ready to claim that Harris wasn’t prepared to be vice president or president. Halperin even compared it to the backlash Sarah Palin got when she ran with John McCain in 2008. That’s not a flattering comparison. McCain later admitted he regretted choosing Palin as his running mate.
According to Halperin, Biden and his top advisors gave Harris many chances to grow as a leader. They protected her and gave her important tasks. She met with many world leaders and was part of big meetings, both in the U.S. and overseas. The goal was to help her look and act ready to lead. But behind closed doors, some people reportedly felt she wasn’t able to keep up.
Halperin said that if Harris’s book criticizes Biden, we’ll start hearing a lot more stories from his team. These stories won’t be kind. They could paint a picture of someone who wasn’t quite ready for the job and needed more help than people thought.
Harris’s book is coming out in late September. Until then, everyone in politics is watching and waiting. What she writes could either smooth things over or start a major public feud.
