Josh Brolin, the man behind Marvel’s most feared villain Thanos, left a massive mark on fans with his chilling performance in the Avengers films. While audiences saw the end of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame (2019), rumors are swirling that the Mad Titan could make a comeback in Marvel’s upcoming blockbusters Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Brolin, who recently wowed audiences in the film Weapons, has now addressed the speculation. And his response makes it pretty clear—if Marvel calls him, he’s ready to step right back into the role.
In Avengers: Endgame, the final movie of Marvel’s Phase 2, the battle with Thanos reached its peak. Tony Stark/Iron Man managed to grab the Infinity Stones, and with a snap of his fingers, he erased Thanos and his army from existence. It was a powerful moment that brought closure to Iron Man’s arc but also left fans heartbroken. For many, this felt like the end of Thanos’ chapter—yet Marvel has a reputation for surprising its audience.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin admitted he’s always game for more. He revealed: “The Thanos thing, if they called me in London right now and said, ‘Let’s do this,’ I’d be like, ‘I’ll be there tomorrow.’” Brolin didn’t confirm anything outright, but he made it clear that he still has love for the role. He also praised Marvel’s storytelling, saying that the studio always manages to create something exciting for its fans. “I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting. I think they do that very, very well,” he added.
Interestingly, Brolin revealed that he’s still in touch with the Avengers cast and crew. He chats with Robert Downey Jr. several times a year and keeps up with directors Anthony and Joe Russo too. This ongoing connection only fuels speculation that Marvel might rope him back in for the multiverse saga.
The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks huge. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters in December 2026, and fans will see Robert Downey Jr. back on screen—but not as Iron Man. Instead, he’s rumored to take on the villainous role of Doctor Doom, shaking up the Marvel universe in a massive way. Then, in December 2027, Marvel will release Avengers: Secret Wars, a film expected to bring together characters from across the multiverse. And if the rumors are true, this could be the perfect opportunity for Thanos—or at least a variant of him—to resurface.
