Jordan Henderson is making his return to the Premier League, and he’s joining Brentford on a two-year deal. After leaving Ajax just a few days ago, the 35-year-old former Liverpool captain didn’t take long to find a new club. Brentford moved quickly to get him before other European clubs could, and now the deal is set to be completed today.
Even though Henderson has had a long career and won just about everything, including the Premier League and Champions League, he’s clearly not ready to slow down. He still feels like there’s more he can do, and he’s got his sights set on getting back into the England squad for the 2026 World Cup. That’s a big reason why he wanted to come back to England; playing in the Premier League keeps him in the spotlight and closer to national team chances.
Brentford’s new manager, Keith Andrews, sees Henderson as a key piece in rebuilding the team. They’ve recently lost some important players, like Christian Norgaard, who moved to Arsenal, and the squad needed someone who could bring control, calmness, and experience to the midfield. Henderson fits that role perfectly, not just because of his skills, but also because of the leadership he brings. And this move also reunites him with some familiar faces. After a short and not-so-successful stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq and a season in the Dutch league with Ajax, Henderson’s now back in the English top flight, which is where he really made his name.
