Joe Keery and Charlie Heaton may have a complicated dynamic as frenemies in Stranger Things, but offscreen, their friendship is pure bromance. Keery, who is also a talented musician, released a new album, The Crux, and dedicated an entire track to his friend and costar Heaton.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Keery explained that the album is a way for him to honor and “memorialize” the people in his life. The track, titled “Charlie’s Garden,” was inspired by the time Keery lived next to Heaton and his girlfriend, Natalia Dyer, also a Stranger Things costar. He recalled how the song came together when he visited their home one day while they were walking their dog. Keery played their piano, and the song began to form in that moment.

When Keery returned to the studio, he recorded the track and later had Heaton add his contribution. Keery shared that “Charlie’s Garden” has become one of his favorites, as it carries clear influences from The Beatles (especially Paul McCartney) and Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).

Keery also noted that many of his Stranger Things castmates are musically inclined, with Millie Bobby Brown showcasing her vocal talent, Heaton being a skilled songwriter and drummer, and Maya Hawke also being musically talented. Finn Wolfhard, the band’s lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Calpurnia, recently released new music that Keery praised.

Given the cast’s musical talents, it wasn’t too surprising to see Keery pay homage to his great friend Heaton with a song that encapsulated both their friendship and their shared time together in Atlanta while filming.
