Jodie Foster made a rare red carpet appearance recently, and she brought along a very special guest — her 23-year-old son, Kit Bernard Foster! The Oscar-winning actress attended the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Santa Monica on April 5, and she couldn’t have looked prouder standing next to Kit, who usually prefers to stay out of the public eye.
Jodie looked effortlessly chic in a crisp white wrap dress, while Kit kept it classy in a navy blue suit, crisp white shirt, and a playful polka-dot bowtie. His signature glasses gave him an extra dash of charm. Their appearance together didn’t cause a stir because they were flashy or over-the-top — it turned heads simply because it was such a rare, sweet moment.
Jodie shares Kit and his older brother, Charlie, with her former partner, Cydney Bernard. These days, Jodie is married to photographer Alexandra Hedison. Earlier this year, Charlie accompanied Jodie to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but seeing Kit out with her is an even rarer treat.
Over the years, Jodie’s been very intentional about keeping her sons away from the Hollywood spotlight. Back in a 2018 interview with The Guardian, she talked about how important it was for them to have a normal upbringing. “My older son is getting more interested in acting now, and I’m glad he discovered it late,” she said at the time. “My younger son is really shy, and I can promise you he will never be an actor.”
Even though Kit likes to keep things low-key, Jodie couldn’t resist giving her boys a heartfelt shoutout during this year’s Golden Globe Awards. As she accepted her award for her role in True Detective: Night Country, she said warmly, “Kit, my scientist son, and Charlie, my actor son… I love you, and this, of course, is for you.” Her voice cracked with emotion as she talked about the pride she feels seeing them chase their dreams.
Later, speaking to People, Jodie gushed about her sons and how much joy their accomplishments bring her. “Every time they get a joy, like I got an ‘A’ or I got this job or I got an audition, my heart just fills up 14 times,” she said.
Kit may not love the glitz and cameras like his mom does, but on this special night, he was there by her side, showing the world just how strong and beautiful their bond is — one smile at a time.
