Jillian Lauren-Shriner, a well-known author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, is facing serious legal trouble after reportedly being charged with the attempted murder of a police officer. The incident, confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department, took place on Tuesday, April 8, and was made public on Thursday, April 10.

According to a report by PEOPLE, Lauren-Shriner allegedly fired a gun at police during an encounter in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Officers were in the area investigating a separate hit-and-run case when they encountered her in the yard of a nearby home.

LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish said that the investigation uncovered key evidence, including a spent shell casing and body camera footage, that showed Lauren-Shriner refusing to follow police commands to drop her weapon. Officers claim she pointed and fired the gun in their direction, which led to her being shot in the shoulder by police.

She was arrested and officially booked on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, a felony offense. Audio from police dispatch reportedly captured one officer saying, “Female suspect’s going to be wanted for ADW [assault with a deadly weapon] on the PO [police officer],” while another officer called in a request for medical help for a “female suspect, gunshot victim.”

At the time of the incident, Lauren-Shriner was said to be wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and black pants. Although she was not involved in the hit-and-run that initially brought officers to the neighborhood, her refusal to disarm led to a dangerous escalation.

She has since been released on $1 million bail and is now awaiting further legal proceedings. The case remains under investigation.

Jillian Lauren-Shriner is recognized in literary circles for her books and personal essays, and this turn of events has shocked both fans and followers of her work, as well as those familiar with her husband’s role in the popular rock band Weezer.
