Jessie J is opening up about where she and her partner, Chanan Safir Colman, stand in their relationship and what’s next for them. The couple has been together for a couple of years now, and they’re also proud parents to a baby boy. Jessie has been really impressed by how Chanan handles fatherhood and is hoping he’ll take the next big step—popping the question and proposing to her.
In a chat with People Magazine, Jessie shared that she was actually the one who made the first move when they started dating, so now she’s waiting for Chanan, who’s a professional basketball player, to take the lead and ask her to marry him.
Jessie talked about how Chanan has gone above and beyond as a dad, saying, “He has exceeded my expectations as a father beyond my imagination. I’m so grateful that he is so present and just so willing to adapt around, obviously, my career.” It’s clear she really values how supportive and involved he is, especially since her music career keeps her busy.
When it comes to getting married, Jessie is in no rush. She explained that while they’ve talked about having a wedding plenty of times, they’re happy to take things slow and do it on their own timeline. Jessie also mentioned how people sometimes react oddly when she talks about marriage, but she knows what she wants and isn’t letting others pressure her.
She said, “I would love to get married when Sky’s old enough to know what’s happening, so he can really be a part of it and enjoy that moment of seeing Mummy and Daddy come together in our love.” For Jessie, having a child together is already the deepest kind of connection they share.
On a lighter note, Jessie joked that she won’t be the one proposing this time around. Since she made the first move in their relationship, she feels it’s only fair that Chanan takes the initiative now. “I’m not proposing, even though I’m always the one that makes the move. I made a move on him, so he’s got to make the move on me,” she laughed.
Jessie J and Chanan Colman first met in 2021, and after two years of dating, they celebrated the arrival of their first son, making their little family complete.
