Laurin Bell, a former Jeopardy! contestant, sadly passed away at the age of 41 on March 23, 2025. Bell, who lived in Lakeland, Florida, worked as an executive assistant and gained national attention when she appeared on Jeopardy! on Valentine’s Day in 2023.

During her time on the show, Bell impressed viewers with her quick thinking and wide-ranging knowledge, earning $5,200. Though she didn’t win against returning champion Kendra Westerhaus, her appearance was memorable and well-loved by fans.

Bell’s death was confirmed by the Florida Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled it as a suicide. Her passing has left her friends, family, and fans devastated.

A heartbreaking final Facebook post, believed to be written by Bell, read:
“Well everyone, I’m signing off from life. See you on the other side.”

While the authenticity of this post hasn’t been officially confirmed, it suggests that Bell was struggling with deep personal battles in the days leading up to her passing.

Her loved ones remember her as a kind, intelligent, and funny person, and her loss is being deeply felt by those who knew her.

Beyond the grief of her passing, there is another urgent concern—Bell’s 14-year-old dog, Kinley, now finds herself in need of a new home.

Bell’s cousin, Kristen Joyner, shared an emotional Facebook post not only announcing Laurin’s passing but also asking for help in finding Kinley a new family.

Kinley, a gentle and friendly senior dog, gets along well with people and cats, but not other dogs. After Bell’s death, she was taken to Polk County Animal Control in Florida, where she is now facing a 10-day adoption deadline before her future becomes uncertain.

The shelter, which is working toward becoming a no-kill facility, is doing what it can, but time is running out to secure a loving home for Kinley.

Bell’s passing has deeply affected the Jeopardy! community, with fans sharing their condolences and memories of her appearance. Many have pointed out that she seemed happy and confident on the show, a reminder that you never truly know what someone might be going through behind closed doors.

As this heartbreaking story gains attention, many are hopeful that Kinley will find a safe and loving home before the deadline. Pets often hold a special place in their owners’ hearts, and Bell would likely have wanted Kinley to be cared for.

Our thoughts go out to Laurin Bell’s family, friends, and all who were touched by her presence. We also hope that Kinley finds a new, loving family soon—a small silver lining in an otherwise tragic situation.

Rest in peace, Laurin.
