Jennifer Coolidge brought her signature self-deprecating humor to the Emmys stage this year, making a joke that had everyone talking—at her own expense, and Elizabeth Debicki’s.
The White Lotus star was presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to Hacks star Jean Smart when she took a moment to poke fun at her own award-winning past. Coolidge, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Emmy in 2023, quipped: “I can tell you from experiencing winning this, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. It’s really not. I had gotten really close with my fellow nominees especially after I won but I’m pretty sure they removed me from the group chat.”
She didn’t stop there. “We were all supposed to go on a trip to Ibiza, and I found out that I wasn’t included,” she continued. “And the only reason I knew that was because Elizabeth Debicki and I have the same Ozempic dealer, and you know, at least hers is working. But now that I think about it, winning the Emmy, I think it might have been the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Debicki, who won an Emmy last year for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, wasn’t at the ceremony, as she’s currently filming The Adventures of Cliff Booth alongside Brad Pitt in LA.
Coolidge’s joke taps into a recent trend among celebrities, many of whom have openly discussed using weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro, including Meghan Trainor, Amy Schumer, and Scott Disick.
Meanwhile, fans are still hoping Coolidge will reprise her role as Paulette Parcelle in another Legally Blonde film. Screenwriter Mindy Kaling recently told TIME: “I don’t have any power here. It’s an MGM, Amazon, and Hello Sunshine thing. Dan Goor and I wrote a draft that we really like. We hope it sees the light of day… It’s like writing fan-fic except it’s the actual three-quel.”
She praised Coolidge’s current career momentum, saying: “Since the time we started this project, she has had this renaissance with The White Lotus. If you put Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge in a movie right now, I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t run to the theaters to see it, and they’re already the two stars of Legally Blonde? That’s fantastic.”
For now, fans will have to wait to see if Coolidge and her on-screen bestie return for the highly anticipated sequel.
