Jennifer Aniston has known Reese Witherspoon for over two decades, but it turns out there’s still plenty she didn’t know about her longtime friend. During a playful interview, the Friends star was completely floored when she learned that “Reese” isn’t actually her co-star’s first name.
The pair have been close ever since 2000, when Reese guest-starred on Friends as Rachel Green’s younger sister Jill. Their friendship has only deepened over the years, especially after reuniting on screen in 2019 for The Morning Show. To promote season four of the hit series, they recently appeared together on LADBible Entertainment’s YouTube game show Do You Even Know Me?, where things took an unexpectedly hilarious turn.
Reese kicked things off confidently, saying, “I’ve known this person for 25 years, how could I lose?” But when Jennifer asked her about her middle name, Reese stunned everyone with her answer.
The multiple-choice question was whether her middle name was Jane, Jean, or Joan. Jennifer guessed “Jane,” only for Reese to reveal it was actually Jean. Then she casually dropped the real bombshell: “It’s confusing. I’m Laura Jean.”
Jennifer’s jaw dropped. “Laura Jean? That’s your real name? Who’s Laura? Who the hell’s Laura?” she exclaimed, completely taken aback. She then joked, “I’m not calling you that from now on!”
Reese explained that her full name is Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon, and that she’s gone by her middle name since childhood. “I didn’t change it,” she said. “I’ve just always been Reese.”
Jennifer wasn’t the only one surprised. Reese herself admitted she didn’t know Jennifer’s middle name either—Joanna. That evened the score a little between the two friends.
The rest of the quiz was filled with laughs and nostalgia. Reese redeemed herself when she correctly remembered how Rachel Green famously ruined an English trifle on Friends. Fans of the show will recall that Rachel accidentally combined the dessert with a shepherd’s pie recipe after two magazine pages stuck together, leaving her to serve a bizarre trifle filled with custard, jam, minced beef, and peas.
The moment between Jennifer and Reese has since delighted fans online, many of whom admitted they were just as shocked as Jennifer to discover that Reese Witherspoon is actually Laura.
