James Gunn has addressed growing rumours about the upcoming Teen Titans movie, which is currently in development at DC Studios. With the DC Universe entering a new phase following the release of Superman, Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters is beginning to take shape. Several live-action films, television series, and animated projects are now moving forward at various stages of development, and the Teen Titans film is among the most talked about.

The Teen Titans have long been a fan-favourite team, known for their various comic book line-ups and successful animated series. The new DC Universe aims to finally bring this beloved group into the world of live-action cinema. However, speculation about which characters will appear in the movie has begun spreading rapidly online. A recent rumour suggested that the film would feature the 2003 animated show’s roster, but with Damian Wayne replacing Dick Grayson as Robin.

Gunn was quick to respond when asked about this rumour by a fan on Threads. His response was clear and direct. He said that anything being said about the movie’s details is entirely made up or based on guesses. He emphasised that only four people in the world currently know anything about the concept of the film’s story. This firm denial dismisses claims about the team’s roster or direction being finalised at this point.

The 2003 line-up reference comes from the widely loved Teen Titans animated series, which aired for five seasons and featured characters like Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg. Many fans assumed that this line-up would serve as inspiration for the movie, but Gunn’s comments suggest otherwise. He confirmed that no official details about the team composition or storyline have been made public or even finalised.

Currently, Ana Nogueira is the screenwriter attached to the Teen Titans film. However, her primary focus remains on writing the Wonder Woman project for DC Studios. With that in mind, the Teen Titans script is still in the early stages of development, and no casting or official plot elements have been confirmed. Apart from Gunn and Nogueira, the only two people likely to be aware of the project’s direction are DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran and possibly Warner Bros Discovery executive David Zaslav.

Gunn’s public clarification helps shut down the spread of misinformation and sets realistic expectations for fans. It also reinforces the fact that the creative team is still laying the groundwork for what could become one of DC’s most exciting team-up films. With the DC Universe already focused on reintroducing several major heroes, the direction for Teen Titans remains open to many possibilities.

Given how many versions of the Teen Titans exist in comic history, it is impossible to predict which characters will ultimately appear in the film. Still, fans can be hopeful that more details about the movie’s development will emerge before the end of 2025. Until then, speculation should be viewed cautiously and only confirmed updates from official sources should be trusted.
