The sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is officially in development at DC Studios, with James Gunn giving fans an early glimpse into what to expect. David Corenswet will return as Superman, joined by Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as Lex Luthor. Gunn shared that the film will explore a complex dynamic between the two iconic characters.
Speaking on Howard Stern’s podcast, Gunn revealed that Superman and Lex Luthor will need to join forces to confront “a much, much bigger threat,” making the story as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman one. He emphasized that the relationship between the hero and villain will be central, highlighting both tension and reluctant collaboration. Gunn also mentioned his personal connection to Lex, which inspired his approach to the character’s arc alongside Corenswet and Hoult.
Reports indicate that Rachel Brosnahan may return as Lois Lane, potentially adding more depth to the storyline. Production is slated to begin in April 2026, building on the success of the first Superman film and other DC projects like Peacemaker Season 2.
Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, promising a fresh take on Superman while exploring the uneasy alliance between him and his iconic nemesis.
