The Batman: Part II is one of the most anticipated superhero films in recent years, and James Gunn has now cleared the air regarding ongoing rumors. Speculation had suggested that the sequel would introduce Batman’s sidekick Robin, possibly through the character of Dick Grayson. However, Gunn firmly denied the reports, writing on his Threads account, “Guys, please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about The Batman 2.”
Robert Pattinson will return as the Dark Knight, reprising his role after the success of the 2022 film. The upcoming movie will also see Colin Farrell back as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Zoë Kravitz, who played Selina Kyle in the first installment, has not yet confirmed her return.
Director Matt Reeves has completed the script, and filming is scheduled to begin in January next year. Despite multiple delays, Reeves and the team are moving forward with production. Unlike other projects connected to the DC Universe, this sequel will release under the Elseworlds banner, a separate label for stories outside the main DC Studios continuity.
Gunn also defended Reeves’ creative process, emphasizing that fans need to give the director space and time. He explained that the quality of the first film was a direct result of Reeves’ approach and that patience would pay off again.
The Batman: Part II is officially slated for release in October 2027, with expectations already building for how Reeves will continue Gotham’s gritty story.
